With over 40 Living Walls installed over the past 18 months, both large and small, we are pleased to announce the ‘arrival’ of our specialist Living Wall maintenance team.
The maintenance of Living Walls is proving to be quite a specialist area and, whilst our existing Garden Maintenance Teams initially coped with the volume, it became apparent that not only more specialist care was required but more frequent visits.
Werner Oeder has been appointed as our Team Leader at the sharp end of the Living Walls maintenance regime, under the auspices of Mark Gibbs, Contracts Director. The Maintenance Team is fully kitted out with access equipment, plant food, a mobile dose-a-tron, long handled pruners, irrigation components and all relevant H&S certificates for working at height.
At point of sale, we are insisting on a maintenance agreement on each wall for the first year, minimum. It has become apparent that the irrigation systems need regular monitoring by way of a site visit. Our maintenance agreements now revolve around two visits pcm for a visual inspection and health check of the wall and, depending on the wall design, a ‘horticultural’ visit twice per annum. With this agreement in place, we can guarantee the success of plants and keep the walls looking good for 10 years.
We gain valuable feedback from Werner and the team as to which plant species work best in which environments. This information is sent back to Aldingbourne Nurseries and our own design team. |
